2015 Emmy Awards Fashion Inspired Nails!

Posted on Sep 21, 2015

Hi guys!  Happy Monday!  Usually, Mondays are Lynnderella days but since last night was the 67th Annual Emmy Awards, I decided to share some fashion inspired nail art with you!  There were so many lovely gowns and tuxes on the red carpet this year, I had a really hard time narrowing down the ones I wanted to create nail art for!  There was only maybe a couple of gowns I saw that that were ho-hum in my opinion.  I was able to narrow it down to 8 different looks to recreate on my nails, so let’s take a look!

First up, is a fashion inspired look I haven’t done before.  It’s a floral pattern based on a bowtie!  Tituss Burgess from The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is amazing.  I love his style, his personality and his character on the show.  (I also loved him on 30 Rock!)  So when he showed up in a evergreen tux with an amazing bowtie, I knew it just had to be done.  This turned out to be my favorite nail art look of the group. To recreate the bowtie, I used Oscar Del La Renta “Aubergine” as the base, OPI “No Room For The Blues” and Zoya “Sia” for the flowers, OPI “50 Years Of Style” for the gold accents and Rescue Beauty Lounge “Recycle” and Butter London “Bossy Boots” for the leaves.

Next is some nail stamping inspired by a pretty gown worn by the amazing Retta from Parks and Recreation.  First of all, I’m so sad that Parks and Rec is over, I can’t even bear to watch the final season.  I’m sure I’ll be 100% tears the whole time, so I’m prepping myself before I watch it.  Secondly, I love Retta.  I’m so glad over the seasons of P&R, her character became more prevalent.  She adds so much to the show.  Also, I generally love her fashion choices at red carpet events.  This gown, while not liked by a lot of critics for some reason, really caught my eye.  I think it’s so cute and playful and bright and fun!  Plus it looks stunning on her.  I knew I’d need to do some stamping to recreate this look on my nails.  I’m still mastering my nail stamping so it’s not perfect but I think it mimics the gown pretty well!  For this look I used Rica “Whiteout” as the base and Pipe Dream Polish “On The List” and Rica “Whiteout” for the gradient stamping over the top.

Now we have my favorite look of the night.  Zoe Kazan’s gown just had my entranced from the minute I saw her on the red carpet.  Tell me her dress doesn’t look like a watermarble.  Of course I would have to recreate it on my nails.  While it didn’t turn out as great on my nails as Zoe looked at the Emmy’s, it’s still one of my favorites because my version looks sorta like Christmas and it makes me really excited to try this around the Holidays!  For this look I used Rica “Whiteout” and OPI “Coca-Cola Red” (man is it hard to marbleize red and white without them bleeding!) and then I added a glitter gradient at the base of my nail using Different Dimension “Tinsilitis”.

The next mani was inspired by Danielle Brooks’ Christian Siriano gown.  My gosh, did she look stunning last night or what?  I was obsessed with this dress.  And of course it looks amazing on Danielle, who’s on Orange Is The New Black, which is everyone’s favorite show, isn’t it?   There are pictures of her kind of twirling the skirt around on the red carpet and she looked like a gorgeous mermaid or something!  I’m just in love.  For this look I used, Milani “Blue Zoom” as the base and Zoya “Sara” and CND “Cerulean Sea” for the flared out stripes.

When I saw the next gown, worn by Christine Marzano on the red carpet, I knew it would have to be done.  The dress was pretty much made as an inspiration to recreate a negative space manicure.  I mean, seriously.  For this look I used KBShimmer “Eclipse” for the lines and Zoya “Sunshine” and “Dahlia” to fill in some spaces and the rest I left with my natural nail showing.

Next up, a super simple look recreated to look like Amanda Crew’s Emmys gown.  The dress was so sweet and simple and kind of reminded me of a modern china pattern.  The dress is polka dotted but the polka dots were random and looked sort of washed out.  How perfect for a nail art look!  I used Rica “Whiteout” as the base and thinned out Milani “Blue Zoom”, OPI “Life Gave Me Lemons” and KBShimmer “Breaking Blues” with acetone to create washed out polka dots.

This next mani made me realize why I never do stripes… I suck at them.  Even when they look decent in person, when I get my hands up close and personal with the camera, it always looks a mess.  But whatever, I tried and I loved Ellie Kemper’s dress too much not to share it anyway.  She always stars in The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and she is spectacular in that show!  She was also in The Office, so, double love the Ellie!  She’s one of those actresses I feel like I could be friends with if we ran in the same circles.  She just seems so sweet and approachable!  For this nail art look I used, Zoya “Chantal” and “Nana”, OPI “A Great Opera-tunity”, “Silver Canvas”, “Is Mai Tai Crooked?”, “I Cannoli Wear OPI” and “Sorry I’m Fizzy Today”, China Glaze “Metro Pollen-tin” and KBShimmer “Soul Deep” and created a single chevron to mimic the bottom of Ellie’s gown.

Last up, I have an easy mani inspired by Christina Hendricks’ Naeem Khan gown.  I picked the wrong shade of gold here because the accents on her gown are a bit more of a bronzey gold but hey, I’m giving myself a break because I still love how it turned out.  Christina always looks incredibly classy and I love how she rocks her curves always.  She is stunning.  I did just a simple dotticure here in patterns that matched her dress using KBShimmer “Eclipse” as the base and Deborah Lippmann “Autumn in New York” for the dots.

  • These are all pure perfection, I can’t believe this is ONE posts worth of nail art, you put me to shame!! I really can’t pick a favourite, it’s between Christine Marzano and Zoe Kazan! Amazing work <3

  • What an AWESOME post! You’re amazing with your timing too. I love that you created a look inspired by Retta’s dress…it was one of my favorites. I was so sad that Amy Poehler and Parks & Rec didn’t win though :(

    • Thanks! :) Her dress was so gorgeous! I was sad Amy didn’t win too but her reaction for not winning was the best. I just love her. I’m so sad Parks & Rec didn’t get more credit. Such a great show.

  • Ok…so…wait a minute… just… what?! Stop! You recreate Emmys fashion inspired nails from yesterday to today!?
And not just one design, but…EIGHT!?!? Woman, tell me what medicine you’re on, ’cause I want some of that for myself ;)
You chose really beautiful and, some, quite unique, outfits and I can’t help but love every single one! Even your stripes one you said you didn’t like much – we’re calling them organic lines.
How is it you’re so much Superwoman, girl!? DAmn!

    • Adrienne Haupt

I was thinking the same thing!!! It’d take me a week to recreate even one of these in a semi-presentable manner!

    • Well, I’ll admit, I was at it for about 10 hours and stayed up until 2 doing them and then posting them. Which is basically insane but I set my mind to it so I was going to post them! HAHA! I love that “organic lines”… that just what I was going for *wink wink* Thank you so much for your lovely comments!

Hi Valesha, you know we’d all love to see more nail art from you! You’re so talented with bringing these fashion looks to the nail. Did you stay up all night creating these or did you get some kind of sneak peek at the dresses early? Because I have no idea how you could have not only painted all of these in one night, but also did all the creative thinking required to design such amazing looks! Thanks for all the lovely nail inspiration, however you do it!!

    • I always tell myself I’ll do more but it doesn’t work out! Haha! I’ll keep trying to share it as often as I can. :) I did stay up all night. I paid for it at work on Monday, but the creative juices were flowing so I couldn’t stifle it! Thanks for all your sweet words!

I guess we, your readers, tend to forget that you also have a “real” job outside of your blogging life… although I do know there are some bloggers for whom it is their primary occupation. It just goes to show you that we will always want more, more, more, and you have to limit yourself to what is humanly possible!! ;)

        • I would love to do it full time but I’m not able to, luckily, it’s still a passion for me and an outlet after being at work all day! So I love to share the nail art side whenever possible! I appreciate that you guys want more! It pushes me to try new things!

  • Oh. My. GOD. I freaking LOVE the bow tie look so so so SO much!!! And I am just realizing that we want to travel to Canada and America in SEPTEMBER next year, so I could actually watch the Emmy’s?! Also, why are you so hard on yourself about your stamping? It’s gorgeous!

    • WHATTTT! That would be amazinggggg! It’s so fun to watch, I must admit. I love seeing all the fashions. I tend to be a perfectionist when it comes to certain things but especially my nails so when it doesn’t come out exactly as I picture it in my head, I get super disappointed. It’s a bad habit! Thank you for you your kind words!

  • This post in insane for so many reasons Valesha! My favourite is the floral mani inspired by Tituss’ bow tie. He is the sole reason I watched Kimmy Schmidt haha. So funny! The gradient pink stamping is a close second. You did amazing!

  • You’re amazing for getting these up so fast! I always love your award show nail art posts!

  • Sharon Parayos Merritt

You did a spectacular job with these representations! OMG!!!

  • Rosalia Pano

    • They seem to be a favorite on the blog so I do them as much as I can! Thanks for reading and I’m glad you like them!
