Candy Lacquer: Winter/Holiday 2012
Guess what!? I finally got around to swatching the Winter/Holiday collection from Candy Lacquer! Some of these were the first Holiday polishes I had bought this year and I just never got around to swatching them! I’m doing it just in the knick of time (although, sadly, it’s after Christmas. :/ ) Oh Candy Lacquer, how I love thee and your glittery goodness. *SWOON*
“Candy Dots” has those circular glitters that I love! It’s got fuchsia, green, champagne gold, light pink, red and bright blue glitter in a clear base. It reminds me of holiday lights. :) The only issue I had with this was there was a lot of the glitter stuck to the sides that WOULD NOT come off. I think that made the base to glitter ratio a little off and therefore the glitter was hard to get at without getting a ton of the base. I ended up having to really dab this on and place glitter pieces in bare spots. Not super user friendly which is a bit of a bummer but I will make do because of my love of circular glitter. :) Leaving it upside down for a few minutes did help a little. This is 2ish dabbed coats over OPI “Color So Hot It Berns.”
“Deck The Halls” surprised me. I don’t know if I wasn’t looking close enough or what, but I thought this was just a gold, white, red and green glitter topcoat, but it’s much more than that. It’s got blue and sheer glitter in there too. The sheer glitter looks like velum. It’s very interesting. It also has heart shaped glitter which I didn’t see either! This turned out to be a lot more interesting than some of the run of the mill Christmas themed polishes. I quite enjoyed it! This is 1 coat over Dolce & Gabbana “Wild Green.”
“Holiday Ornaments” has hex glitter in a variety of colors as well as some iridescent looking microglitter in a clear base. The glitters in this one weren’t as easy as usual to get out. I had to work a bit at picking them up, but it wasn’t impossible. I think this is one that would benefit from being left upside down for a few minutes before using it. It might make the glitters easier to get at. I wouldn’t normally use a sheer polish as a base for a glitter topcoat (it’s just not my style) but I decided to go for it for this swatch and I really loved the outcome! The glitter really popped! This is 2 coats over OPI “My Pointe Exactly.”
“Midnight Gems” is like the holy grail of holo glitter polishes. It’s so holographic that I have to kind of guess as what colors the glitters actually are. I believe they are lilac, pink, dark pink and light blue. If you like holo glitter, or holo anything really, you need this polish cause WHOA. It is so amazing. This is 2 coats over Essie “Smooth Sailing.” (PS – this is the first time I have ever even swatched Smooth Sailing and OMG! It’s beautiful!)
“O Christmas Tree” was the one that had me the most worked up! Christmas tree in a bottle! I’m happy to report that it has lived up to my hype! It’s got kelly green shredded glitter, silver stars and multicolored hexes in a clear base. I was originally going to put this over a green base but I wanted the green shreds to pop more so I put it over a blue, which I think makes it look more versatile. Like it could be worn year round! So that makes me happy! This is 2 coats over OPI “Ogre The Top Blue.”
“Rudolph’s Treats” is another one that has the circular glitter that I love! Yay for circular glitter! This one has red, green and gold! I like that it’s got the usual Christmas colors but in a glitter shape that isn’t that common. Another one with the same issue as “Candy Dots” but once again, worth it to me! This is 2ish dabbed coats over Illamasqua “Load.”
“Snow Bunny” has pale purple, pink, ice blue and white glitter in a clear base. There is also some holo pink glitter in there. This is so dainty and girly. Of course I loved it! I really loved the combo I chose too! This is 2 coats over OPI “Rumple’s Wiggin” and I think it’s a perfect base for it!
“Snow Cone” has dark coral pink, medium blue, white and some of the sheer velum-looking glitter in a clear base. Some of the glitter in this is holographic also. I loved the bar glitter in the mix here and the color combo is fun and cute! This is 2 coats over Essie “Where’s My Chauffer?”
And I saved the best for last! I feel like I say this a lot but I was so close to not getting this one. I just didn’t look that special to me. But oh mah lawdddd! I love this so so so so so much! “Sugar Plum Fairy” has aubergine, medium purple, holographic pale lilac and medium coral pink hexes and microglitter. It also has hearts in multiple shades of purple and pink. I think this also has butterfly shaped glitter but I didn’t get any on my nails in these swatches. I have never loved a polish with heart shaped glitter so much. I can’t recall another polish that has more than one color of heart glitter in the polish! There was one heart that was this really vibrant magenta and I was just dying over it! I happened to get a heart on each nail and each one was a different shade. But enough with the hearts… DO YOU SEE THAT HOLO!? It is a straight up rainnnnnbowwww! I even put a close-up of just those 2 nails because I was so in love. It took forever to narrow down which pictures to include here because they were all just amazing! This is my very surprise favorite of the bunch! This is 2 coats over Rescue Beauty Lounge “Mismas.”
Candy Lacquer polishes can be purchased on their website! Don’t forget to follow them on Facebook for news and updates. One of my favorite parts about Candy Lacquer is their straight forward, no nonsense business approach. They are very organized and ship the polish in a timely manner which I think it really important. It is a really great brand and if you haven’t tried any yet, you really should! Happy Sunday guys!
