Dollish Polish: A Christmas Story Collection
Merry Christmas EVE! I’m sure most of you are in bed awaiting the arrival of Santa but I have to fit in another Christmas post before it’s too late! I have one tomorrow also! Tonight, I have swatches of The “A Christmas Story Collection” from Dollish Polish. I had to get this collection because as with most of us, I’m sure, I love “A Christmas Story”! In fact, I just finished watching it tonight with my husband! It’s so hilarious! I love when they go to that Chinese restaurant for dinner after the dogs ruin their turkey! LOL! This collection came with 2 bases and 3 glitter topcoats so I’ll show you the base colors first!
“Be Sure To Drink Your Ovaltine” has a shimmery green base. This polish is really sheer, so it kind of annoyed me to use it as a base for the glitter topcoats. When I’m layering, I feel like my base color should be pretty opaque so I don’t end up doing a bajillion layers, unless I’m going for a soft look and using a pale color. The shade of this one, I would never wear as a sheer. I feel like my nails would just look diseased if I did! So this polish is a major MEH for me. Just not a fan. This is 4 coats and in real life I could still see a slight VNL (visible nail line.)
“I Can’t Put My Arms Down!” (which is a line I quote all year round for no reason at all, BTW…) is a bright orange based red with blue based red microglitter. Now this is better. I love how bright it is and it was much more opaque than BSTDYO. This is 2 smooth coats.
“Fre-Gee-Lay… Must Be Italian” is a gold glitter with red bars and green shreds in a clear base. There is something about this glitter that I don’t like. I can’t quite put my finger on why though. Maybe it’s the glitter quality? It’s suspended nicely and everything but the glitter just looks… tacky and cheap? I really can’t explain this one. It’s nice, I supposed but of all the Christmas glitters I have, I would not think to grab this one. This is 2 coats, pictured over BSTDYO and ICPMAD.
“I Triple Dog Dare Ya!” is silver holographic glitter topcoat. I see hexes, bars and shimmer in the mix here. I love my holo glitters and this one is really pretty but it isn’t unique by any means. I can think of at least 2 other glitter topcoat I have that are comparable. I do think this is nice though. The only “whomp whomp” factor about this is the hexes were really sinky. I struggled to get the ones out that I do have on my nails in these 2 shots. This is 2 coats over BSTDYO and ICPMAD.
“You’ll Shoot Yer Eye Out, Kid” has white and iridescent glitter and white snowflake glitter in a clear base. I rarely dislike a glitter polish. I mean, it has to suck pretty bad for me to not like one. But this… MAJOR fail. Yeah, the iridescent glitter is pretty but we’ve already seen a lot of polishes like it this year and when I saw this polish, I was most excited about the snowflake glitter. Seriously, SNOWFLAKE glitter! I felt like it had to be pretty fantastical but wow, what a miss. The snowflake glitter was impossible to get on the brush. I literally took this little metal hook tool and I have and fished for the glitter. I have never had to go to that extreme to get glitter out. I’ve had to fish before, but I’m usually able to do so with the polish brush. Anyway, once I got the glitter out, I saw that about half of the snowflake pieces I got were not full pieces. The points were randomly cut off. I’m assuming it was a poor batch of glitter? Then I put them on my nails and they were so stiff that I couldn’t get it to lay flat on my nail, whatsoever. It just sat across my nail, similar to the way a piece of wood would lay on a ball. This polish was just a giant ick for me. I’m so disappointed. :/ I had high hopes. This is one coat over BSTDYO and ICPMAD.
I wanted to like this collection so badly but I feel like it was put together kind of sloppily. Like it was a last minute thought and was just thrown together really quick. I can think of so many other directions this collection could have gone and been such a success! The only ones I really like are “I Can’t Put My Arms Down!” and “I Triple Dog Dare Ya!” (I don’t like sinky glitter though…) I was kind of brutally honest here but it’s important to me to tell you my true experiences. Maybe some of you will get these anyway, or already have them, and will have better luck than me!
Dollish Polish can be purchased on their website. Some of their polishes can also be purchased through Llarowe.com and OverallBeauty.com. See you tomorrow with more swatches! Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Day! :)
