OPI: Comparisons – Holiday 2014 Gwen Stefani Collection

Posted on Nov 12, 2014

Ask and you shall receive!  I was asked by many to compare some of the OPI’s from the Holiday 2014 Collection with some other polishes in my stash.

I’ve chosen 3 polishes for each photo that look closest to the polish from the OPI Holiday 2014 collection.  I did this for all except the glitters because there was nothing even close to those to compare them to!  If you don’t see a comparison that you had hoped to see, ask me in the comments about it and if I have the polish, I will let you know what the differences were from rummaging through my stash.  Hope this will help you in your quest for dupedom! :)

OPI | Holiday 2014 Gwen Stefani Collection Comparisons | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Rescue Beauty Lounge “Recycle”, OPI “Christmas Gone Plaid”, Dolce & Gabbana “Wild Green” and Essie “Stylenomics”.  Recycle, CGP and WG are very very close.  Recycle is just a bit warmer toned but CGP and WG are dead on dupes colorwise which is great news because as much as I love WG, it stains horribly.  Stylenomics is much cooler and darker.

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Milani “Sugar Plum”, OPI “Kiss Me – Or Elf!”, China Glaze “Don’t Make Me Wine” and OPI “Thanks Glogg It’s Friday!”  SP is brighter and has obvious pink flecks.  KMOE and DMMW are sooooo close!  DMMW is slightly darker and a touch more red toned.  TGIF is more of a burgundy creme with metallic pink shimmer than it is a metallic polish like KMOE is.

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Zoya “Brooklyn”, OPI “Rollin’ In Cashmere”, OPI “50 Years Of Style”, OPI “OPI With A Nice Finn-ish”.  Brooklyn is lighter, more of a champagne shade.  50YOS is close but a bit more yellow toned and more metallic than frosty.  OWANF is more of a light caramel shade than gold in comparison.

From pointer to pinkie:  3 coats Nubar “Passion’s Pain”, 2 coats OPI “Sleigh Parking Only” and China Glaze “What Are You A-Freight Of?” and 3 coats of NCLA “Clear The Runway”.  These all looked much closer in the bottle than they did on the nail.  PP is more red toned and lighter and has a crelly formulation.  WAYAFO is close but more brown toned and cooler.  CTR is a a jelly and is obviously more red-toned and brighter.

OPI Sleigh Parking Only Comparison | Holiday 2014 Gwen Stefani Collection Comparisons | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Rescue Beauty Lounge “Pause”, OPI “I Carol About You”, Zoya “Savita” and Nubar “Queen”.  Pause is duskier and more blue toned.  Savita is a matte but with top coat the shimmer is much more prevalent and in your face and the base is brighter than ICAY.  Queen is pretty close but the shimmer is more obvious and more colorful.  No dupes!

OPI I Carol About You Comparison | Holiday 2014 Gwen Stefani Collection Comparisons | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): OPI “Warm Me Up”, “Love Is Hot And Coal”, “Queen Of The Road” and Zoya “Dovima”.  WMU is warmer with golden and greenish shimmer.  QOTR is more of a black with slight brown undertones and Dovima is matte but with top coat it’s much more of a black with strong silver shimmer.  Again, no dupes here.

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): OPI “This Gown Needs A Crown”, “Unfrost My Heart”, “My Signature Is D.C.” and “I Haven’t The Foggiest”.  TGNAC is more granular than the rest and paler.  It looks like more of a shimmery top coat in comparison.  UMH and MSIDC are dupes for sure.  I was straining to see a difference and I just couldn’t.  IHTF is much darker and more of a gunmetal shade next to UMH.

OPI Unfrost My Heart Comparison | Holiday 2014 Gwen Stefani Collection Comparisons | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Zoya “Veronica”, OPI “Just Be-Claus”, LVX “Cameo” and OPI “Malaga Wine”.  Veronica and JBC are so close but V is a touch brighter.  Normal people would not see a difference so we’ll go ahead and say these are dupes.  In person, Cameo is much brighter and more pink.  More so than it appears here.  MW is much more red and darker.

OPI Just Be-Claus Comparison | Holiday 2014 Gwen Stefani Collection Comparisons | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Zoya “Sansa”, OPI “First Class Desires” and China Glaze “Rendezvous With You”.  I was sure that Sansa and FCD would be dupes and in low light, they do look close but in brighter light, you can see that they aren’t.  Sansa is more obviously purple.  FCD has the tendency to look black or almost black in the low light.  RWY is more obviously purple than both others has silver and purple shimmer instead of gold.  Someone also suggested OPI “DS Mystery”.  Sadly I got rid of that one quite a while ago.  Off hand, they do look close.  Hopefully someone else will be able to do that comparison.

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Deborah Lippmann “Footloose”, OPI “Fashion A Bow” and “MonSooner Or Later” and Mischo Beauty “Diana”.  Footloose and FAB look like they will be dupes at first but Footloose is more orange toned, but just slightly.  MOL is also more orange toned and brighter.  Diana is pretty close in color but the formulation is different and also more opaque.  It was so hard to capture these accurately because they are bright reds and my camera couldn’t decide how to focus.  You’ll have to take my word that they aren’t dupes because they do look it here.  Even so, you don’t need Footloose and FAB… they are that similar.

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): CND VINYLUX “Rouge Red”, OPI “What’s Your Point-settia?”, Butter London “Pillar Box Red” and Rescue Beauty Lounge “Chinoise”.  RR is a little bit warmer.  WYP and PBR look basically identical.  If we want to get technical PBR is a little bit warmer but I was really straining to tell the difference.  Chinoise is close too but more obviously warmer than the others.

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): OPI “Red Hot Rio” and “Cinnamon Sweet”, Zoya “Livingston” and OPI “Vodka & Caviar”.  In the bottle these looked really similar.  RHR is brighter and much warmer.  L is a couple shades warmer.  V&C a shade warmer but is the closest.  I was so surprised, I didn’t have any reds close to Cinnamon Sweet!  Or at least that looked it to my eye!

From pointer to pinkie: 3 coats of NFU “JS26”, 2 coats of OPI “In A Holidaze”, “Quarter Of A Cent-Cherry” and “Got The Blues For Red”.  I thought JS26 and IAH would be dupes from the bottles but obviously, it’s not even close.  JS26 is more like a syrup than a jelly like IAH is.  IAH and QOACC are the closest but QOACC is a little cooler and more opaque.  GTBFR is even cooler and more opaque still.  No dupes here.

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Zoya “Sarah”, OPI “Red Fingers & Mistletoes”, “Smitten With Mittens” and “Ali’s Big Break”.  The formulation of Sarah and RF&M is similar but Sarah is more pink toned and the gold shimmer is minimal in comparison.  SWM is more of shimmer with a creme base and is cooler toned.  The shimmer is similar but there isn’t as much of it.  ABB is warmer toned and the shimmer is more slight compared to RF&M.  Someone asked me to compare it with China Glaze “Ruby Pumps” but sadly, I don’t own that one anymore.

My wallet thanks you for taking the time to do all those comparisons – I’ve now decided I can probably live without most of those polishes.

  • Michelle Smith

Thank you for this! You did one of the ones I was most curious about (Sleigh Parking Only vs. What Are You A-Freight Of?)! I do wonder how Christmas Gone Plaid compares to Orly Enchanted Forest. I used my ownership of the latter to persuade myself that I didn’t need the former. Similarly, I really like the looks of Cinnamon Sweet, but I wonder how Essie Dressed to Kill and China Glaze Seeing Red compare. Maybe I can convince myself I don’t need CS, either. :)

  • Allison @neversaydiebeauty

OMG, what incredible dupe swatches! Just goes to show how similar so many of the shades we buy are. Love this!

  • Holy cow this is such an awesome post! Thank you!

  • I love these kinds of posts!! Thanks for doing this!

  • Whoa! You are like the nail junkie’s fairy godmother! These are all fabulous comparisons and provide so many great dupes! I can’t believe how close OPI’s Just Be Claus and Zoya’s Veronica are. Thank you so much for the time and thought you put into this post!
