OPI: Fall 2015 Venice Collection Comparisons

Some Products Provided For Review

Hi guys!  This post is long enough as is, so I’m not going to bore you with an introduction… time to go dupe-hunting!

From pointer to pinkie: 2 coats of NCLA “Downtown Dollface”, 3 coats of OPI “I Cannoli Wear OPI”, 2 coats of Nubar “Choirgirl” and 3 coats of Deborah Lippmann “Misty Morning”.  DD is identical to ICWO and quite frankly, DD has a better formula.  Choirgirl is also an identical color but it has a crelly formulation (which I prefer for lighter colors like this) and again, has a better formula than ICWO.  MM is similar in color but not identical and the finish is entirely different since it’s a sheer and ICWO is a creme.

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Zoya “Janel”, OPI “Amore At The Grand Canal”, OPI “Vodka & Caviar” and OPI “Got The Blues For Red”.  Janel is pretty close to AATGC, maybe a tone darker but most people wouldn’t be able to see the difference.  V&C is brighter and warmer.  GTBFR is darker and cooler.

OPI Amore At The Grand Canal Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Deborah Lippmann “My Old Flame”, OPI “Amore At The Grand Canal”, Butter London “Saucy Jack” and Milani “Iconic Red”.  MOF is slightly cooler.  SJ is warmer and has a jelly formulation instead of a creme one.  IR is darker and cooler.

From pointer to pinkie: 3 coats of OPI “Samoan Sand”, 2 coats of OPI “Tiramisu For Two”, 2 coats of Essie “Topless & Barefoot” and 2 coats of OPI “Don’t Bossa Nova Me Around.  SS is more yellow-toned and sheer.  T&B is slightly more yellow-toned a shade or 2 lighter than TFT.  DBNMA is much more pink-toned, making TFT appear yellower in comparsion.  No dupes!

OPI Tiramisu For Two Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

From pointer to pinkie: 3 coats of Deborah Lippmann “Love Shack”, 2 coats of OPI “A Great Opera-tunity”, 2 coats of Milani “Pink Beige” and 2 coats of Rescue Beauty Lounge “Plie”.  LS is more pink and brighter.  PB is more pink and cooler.  Plie is more of a true nude although it appears pinker in the bottle.  Nothing in my stash came even remotely close to AGO!

OPI A Great Opera-tunity Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): OPI “My Vampire Is Buff”, OPI “Be There In A Prosecco”, Nicole By OPI “That’s Putting It Mild” and Glitter Gal “Nuddy Nude”.  MVIB and BTIAP are nearly identical.  MVIB is maybe a hair yellower-toned but that’s a stretch.  I think it’s safe to say dupes on these.  TPIM looks khaki-colored in comparison.  NN has stronger gray undertones.

OPI Be There In A Prosecco Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie):  China Glaze “Sweet Hook”, OPI “Purple Palazzo Pants”, Jordana “Lively Lilac” and Butter London “Molly-Coddled”.  SH is more pale and more pink-toned.  LL looks pretty close but it’s slightly warmer-toned and has a crelly formula.  MC is lighter, brighter and slightly warmer.  In comparison to all of these PPP looks much more muted than it appeared on it’s own, which was surprising.

OPI Purple Palazzo Pants Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): OPI “Lucky Lucky Lavender”, OPI “Purple Palazzo Pants”, China Glaze “In A Lily Bit” and China Glaze “Lotus Begin”.  LLL doesn’t even look purple in comparison, it looks straight up pink.  IALB is brighter and lighter.  LB is warmer and brighter.  I was convinced I’d have a dupe for PPP somewhere in my stash but it looks like it’s a no go!

OPI Purple Palazzo Pants Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Milani “Mint Crush”, OPI “Gelato On My Mind”, Essie “Mint Candy Apple”, Zoya “Lillian”.  The first 3 are barely distinguishable from one another.  I could not see the difference.  I was studying them had and MC and MCA are maybe a smidge more blue-toned than GOMM.  But, let’s just go with straight dupes because that’s pushing it.  Of the 3, “Gelato On My Mind” has the best formula.  Lillian is slightly more muted and a 1/2 a shade darker.

OPI Gelato On My Mind Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Sephora By OPI “Cartwheels On The Catwalk”, OPI “Gelato On My Mind”, Mischo Beauty “Jackie” and OPI “What’s With The Cattitude?”  COTC is darker and dustier and more of an aqua shade.  Jackie is more blue-toned.  WWTC is a definite sky blue in comparison.

OPI Gelato On My Mind Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): OPI “Ginger Bells”, OPI “It’s A Piazza Cake”, Sparitual “Clay” and Nubar “Encore”.  GB is more brown toned and dustier.  IAPC and Clay are the closest but Clay is a bit darker and has more brown undertones.  Encore is obviously not even close; dustier and more red.  But how awesome do these colors look together for a Fall mani!  Ooooooh!

OPI It's A Piazza Cake Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

From pointer to pinkie: 2 coats of Orly “Luxe”, 2 coats of OPI “Baroque… But Still Shopping!”, 3 coats of OPI “My Favorite Ornament” and 2 coats of Essie “Beyond Cozy”.  Luxe is more yellow-toned with shimmer but no glitter bits like BBSS has.  MFO is a paler gold and it has microglitter and isn’t a foil.  BC is even a paler gold with finer milled microglitter than MFO and again, it’s not a foil.  These was nothing even remotely close to BBSS.

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): il etait un vernis “Lunaria”, OPI “Worth A Pretty Penne”, OPI “OPI With A Nice Finn-ish” and OPI “Rising Star”.  Lunaria is warmer and has holographic shimmer.  OWANF is more of a chrome finish and also more caramel colored.  RS is much warmer and a more caramel-y orange and also more reflective.  Stay tuned for an additional comparison at the end of this post that I completely missed.  I did a quick swatch after one of my readers suggested it (thanks, Rosalia!)

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Zoya “Oceane”, OPI “Venice The Party?”, OPI “The Sky’s My Limit” and OPI “Swimsuit… Nailed It!”.  Oceane is quite similar but slightly more green-toned and has more metallic-like properties.  I’d say they are close enough though that you probably don’t need both.  TSML is darker and more of a foil with green and gold shimmer.  SNI is a darker blue and it has a foil finish.

OPI Venice The Party? Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): Zoya “Estelle”, OPI “St. Mark’s The Spot”, OPI “Swimsuit… Nailed It!” and OPI “Unfor-Greta-bly Blue”.  Estelle is almost identical but it seems like it has a little more shimmer than SMTS.  Other than that, I can’t spot a difference and most people won’t see a difference either.  After I compared SNI to “Venice The Party?”, I realized it would probably be better suited compared to SMTS.  Still no dupes though.  SNI is brighter and more cyan.  It has a foil finish instead of a metallic one.  UFGB is creme based with shimmer and not metallic.  Teal base, lots of bright blue shimmer, no go on the dupe-front.

OPI St. Mark's The Spot Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): OPI “Miss Piggy’s Big Number”, OPI “St. Mark’s The Spot”, OPI “Into The Night” and OPI “Right Off The Bat”.  MPBN is brighter and not as opaque.  ITN is darker and more purple toned.  ROTB is darker and has more of a chrome finish.

OPI St. Mark's The Spot Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from thumb to pinkie): OPI “Viking In A Vinter Vonderland”, Zoya “Lidia”, OPI “O Suzi Mio”, Sally Hansen “Boho a Go-Go” and OPI “A Grape Affair.  Boo for awkward poses but yay for fitting them all into one photo!  Haha!  I feel like my camera kind of freaked out here and you aren’t able to see the differences as well as I could in person.  VIAVV is the darkest and coolest toned of the group.  Lidia is the closest to OSM but maybe, maybe, a smidge more red-toned.  BAGG is also super close but still appears a shade redder to me.  AGA is bluer-toned and has a slight duskiness.

OPI O Suzi Mio Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie): OPI “Queen Of The Road”, OPI “My Gondola Or Yours?”, OPI “4 In The Morning” and OPI “Black Onyx”.  QOTF has a warmed up black base with tons of warm shimmer where those elements are cool-toned in MGOY.  4ITM is more charcoal based in comparison but with similar shimmer.  it also dries with a satin finish (although I used top coat here.)  Black Onyx is a pure place creme but I just threw it in for good measure.  There is an additional comparison at the end of this post that I threw in as an afterthought. :)

OPI My Gondola Or Yours? Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

2 coats of each (from pointer to pinkie):  Zoya “Ember”, OPI “Gimme A Lido Kiss”, OPI “Thanks So Muchness” and CND “Tartan Punk”.  Ember is a tad cooler and more of a metallic.  They look more similar in the photo than they do in person.  TSM is a cooler red with a metallic base.  TP has a creme base and is a cooler red with warm shimmer.  Nothing in my collection even came close to this.  I think “Innie Minnie Mighty Bow” might be similar but I couldn’t find it in my stash.  Maybe I sold it?  I’m not sure!

OPI Gimme A Lido Kiss Comparison | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

Again, thanks to Rosalia who suggested I compare OPI “Worth A Pretty Penne” with China Glaze “Meet Me In The Mirage”.  They are pretty dang close actually but MMITM is rosier.  I actually had it in my drawer of pink polishes which was why I didn’t think to compare it while searching my stash.  I was only looking in my orange/copper drawer.

I also decided to compare OPI “My Gondola Or Yours?” with OPI “Love Is Hot And Coal” after looking at an old swatch of it.  Once I got the bottles next to each other, I knew why I didn’t compare them in the first place, not even close.  MGOY makes LIHAC look straight brown in comparison.

OPI Misc Comparisons | Fall 2015 Venice Collection | Peachy Polish

I hope this was helpful for you all!  Are there any polishes you wished I would have compared but didn’t?  I can’t promise anything but I will try my darndest to swatch them on a swatch wheel and add them to the post if you ask me in the comments below.  It’s kind of nice to have suggestions from others because I tend to go cross-eyed looking for dupes for these posts!  I’m always afraid I miss something, and I probably do!  Thanks for reading!

Great comparison post! It helped me realize that the glitters in Worth a Pretty Penne are very much like those in Mentality Rapture (no longer wearable) so I need to go pick that one up right away!

  • jenna

  • Sharon Parayos Merritt

These comparisons are a huge help! I’m drawn to very similar colors/shades and often end up with dupes/near dupes so these comparisons are terrific for me.

  • Em

  • Heather ツ

AWESOME post, thank you for taking the time!

  • Wow! These dupes comparisons are great! Looks like the most unique polish in this collection is A Great Opera-tunity. Thanks for doing this post Valesha, I know this is very tedious and takes a ton of time.

  • Rosalia Pano

Val you are such a doll, thank you!! I thought they looked alike (WAPP and MMITM) but really wanted to look at them side by side.. I love these kind of colors.. specially if I wear the matte top coat over them.. they look like.. don’t know.. vintage to me.. haha ideas..
so I truly appreciate you helping with this.. I still haven’t bought MMITM thinking it was way too shiny for me.. but now that I’ve seen it compared to so many others (rage from Orly and Versailles Gold from L’oreal) I think I’ll definetly go look for it.. it’s a shade I want to have.
Other comparisons were very helpful too, I have been looking for “my vampire is buff” for a while so now I know I can get BTIAP instead..
have a great day!!!! greetings from Mexico!!

  • Sara

Very helpful comparison post, thank you!

  • Noemi Simaki

This was really brilliant thank you for the effort!!

  • Thank you thank you! This is an immensely helpful post! Special thanks for including Zoya Fall shades into comparison – I was very curious about how they compare to OPIs.
