OPI: Oz The Great And Powerful Collection

Posted on Mar 7, 2013

Today I have OPI’s Soft Shades Collection for 2013!  This year’s Soft Shades were inspired by Disney’s “Oz The Great And Powerful” which will be opening in theatres tomorrow, March 8th!  I am a big fan of the original “Wizard of Oz” so I’m really looking forward to seeing another side to the story!

First up is “Don’t Burst My Bubble.”  It is a very pale pink sheer.  It almost looks like a pink tinted white shade.  I love this one just for the name alone!  I can’t help but picture the Good Witch in the original “Wizard of Oz” floating down in her holographic looking pink bubble. :)  This is so pretty and delicate.  I used 3 coats here and it’s almost opaque.

“Lights Of Emerald City’ has large white and iridescent squares in a clear base.  Love OPI for branching out and trying glitter topcoats like these.  This is so pretty!  I can’t wait to try it over other colors!  This is 1 coat “Don’t Burst My Bubble.”

“Glints of Glinda” is a nude sheer polish.  Really nice formula.  This is the most sheer of the group.  This is 3 coats and there is still an obvious VNL.

“When Monkey’s Fly!” is the big let down of the collection.  Why OPI would release a glitter with obvious curling glitter is beyond me.  If they did it on purpose, I think it’s ridiculous… who wants purposely curling glitter???  Anyway, these pictures actually make it look pretty cool but in real life, I hated this.  I will probably never wear it.  If the glitter hadn’t of curled, this would have been my favorite.  It has large curled gold hexes and medium and small holographic silver hexes in a clear base.  The 4th picture here is not very visually appealing, but I wanted to give you the sense of what the glitter looks like if you look at the nail bed from the tips of your fingers.  If you like the look of the glitter, you could probably get a flat finish with 2-3 coats of topcoat (for the photos I used one coat of topcoat.)  For me, that’s just not something I’m willing to do but to each their own.  This is 2 dabbed coats over OPI “Glints of Glinda.”

Excuse the giant topcoat bubble on the next picture!  Ha!

“I Theodora You” is a baby pink sheer.  Now THIS, I love.  It builds up so well.  3 coats and it’s opaque and it just looks so squishy!

“Which Is Witch?” is a crazy silver holographic glitter topcoat with different sizes of hexes and mini bars!  This is terrific!  Love this so much.  It is EXTREMELY holo in real life.  Just crazy holo.  This is one coat over “I Theodora You.”

OPI Which Is Witch?“What Wizardry Is This?” is a new addition to the Liquid Sands!  Man do I love these textured polishes.  This one has a texture more like fine sand, as the name Liquid Sand would suggest.  I had seen a lot of people comment about how great this one was with a topcoat so I had to do pictures of it with and without topcoat for you!  The first 3 are without topcoat and I really love it that way.  I’m not much a brown polish person but I could see myself wearing this.  It didn’t dry as quickly as the Liquid Sand polishes did from the Mariah Carey Collection.  The last three pictures are WITH topcoat.  I used 2 coats of HK Girl topcoat.  One coat left it feeling a bit gritty still, but 2 left it nice and smooth.  Goodness gracious, it really is beautiful with topcoat! The shimmer really stands out more and it is sooooo eye catching!  It almost looks as though it may have holographic shimmer in there!  You kind of get 2 polishes in one!  This is 2 coats.
