Serum No. 5: Holiday 2012 Collection

Posted on Nov 24, 2012

Aloha from Maui!  I’m here visiting family and just relaxing!  I have some posts lined up for you guys but they may be sporadic since I want to spend as much time with family and friends as I can.  So, bear with me. :)

Today I’ve got 4 polishes from Serum No. 5!  It’s a new-to-me indie brand that has some really pretty and shimmery polishes!  I quite enjoyed these and I think you guys will too.

“Girl’s BFF” is a silvery platinum blinged out polish with a sheer shimmered base.  SO much holo in this polish!  We’ve got holo shimmer, holo microglitter, and small and large holo hexes.  You can tell from the bottle, how holographic the glitter pieces are!  Some of the larger hexes sunk to the bottom and were a little difficult to get out so I would suggest leaving the bottle upside down for 5-10 minutes before polishing.  This will make it easier to retrieve those bits.  Pointer and middle are 2 coats over Essie “Licorice” and ring and pinkie are 3 coats alone.

I ooh’d and aah’d over “Happy Special Day” when I first opened it!  Totally up my alley!  It is described as a white and multi-colored confetti and that it is!  It’s a plethora of glitter in all shapes and sizes with white being the predominant color.  There is also some added holo glitter which was a nice surprise.  The glitter is very dense but not goopy and thick.  I used 2 dabbed coats by itself on my ring and pinkie finger to get almost full coverage.  One more dabbed coat would probably get it opaque.  2 coats over Essie “Licorice” on my pointer and middle fingers.

“Starry Nights” is described as having silver holographic stars, off white, gold and lavender glitter in a shimmering deep blue base.  I thought I would need to layer this one, but was surprised that in reality, I didn’t!  This polish is what I had hoped Lynnderella “When The Moon Was A Star” would look like.  I prefer this!  The glitter pickup was a breeze.  The stars came out without having to fish for them and they laid really nice and flat on the nail.  The edges were not curled in the least, like a lot of polishes with star glitter seem to do.  It’s a very complex mix of glitter that really went well together.  I thought “Happy Special Day” would be my favorite but this ended up winning out!  Pointer and middle have 2 coats over OPI “Into The Night”.  Ring and pinkie have one coat of “Starry Nights” alone.

“Thanks For The Memories” is a mix of different shapes and sizes of black and white glitter with some teeny silver holographic hexes.  Nice formula on this one.  I don’t think you would be able to get it opaque without having to use a TON of coats but this is so great for layering!  This is one coat over Essie “Off The Shoulder”.
