KBShimmer: Winter 2014 Collection Swatches & Review
Hi guys! Today I have KBShimmer’s Winter collection for you. This collection includes 11 new polishes, 5 rereleases from seasons past and one additional polish that you’ll have to wait until the end to hear about! They’ve also released some new cuticle oil scents, which you’ll hear my thoughts on as well. Get ready for lots o’ pics!
New polishes
“Too Cold To Hold” is loaded with blue, green, silver, red and magenta holographic glitters in a jewel toned sapphire jelly base that dries down to a matte textured finish. This is epic. Even when it’s completely matte with no top coat, the glitter just shines and sparkles. Incredible. I can’t say enough good things. Application was pretty easy, it requires just a bit more patience than the regular KBShimmer glitter but still not by much. And the best part yet, It doesn’t stain! I wore it with a coat over of OPI’s ridge-filler as a mani for a day and when I took it off, not a stain in sight! I can’t even handle this gorgeousness. I did 2 coats.
“Mauve On Over” is a pinky lilac crelly with orange, turquoise and navy glitters. Like with all KBShimmer crellys, this was a dream to apply. Even though the name of the polish suggests it’s a mauve, it looks like more of a lilac color to my eye. Regardless, such a beauty and so unique. This is 2 coats.
“Let’s Sleigh Together” has a very pale gray crelly base with kelly green, minty green, cerulean and navy glitter with a holographic shimmer dusting. So pretty and sophisticated. It’s a polish you might be able to get away with at work if you have to wear more neutral colors. And the name! I can’t help but sing “Let’s sleigh [stay] together, yeah yeah yeah! Why don’t you and I combine?” Anyone know what I’m talking about or do I sound crazy? This is 2 coats.
“Fallen Angle” is a pretty royal-blue-leaning-blurple jelly with blue and silver holographic glitters and shimmers. Lots of triangles here so of course, I love it! The jelly formulation gives this such a glassy, squishy finish. Amazing. I would suggest leaving this one upside down for 5 - 10 minutes before applying to help the glitters come to the top. 2 coats here.
“Flake Dance” has tons, and I mean TONS, of holographic silver glitters in a clear base but the true star in this polish is the holographic snowflake glitters! So beautiful. I can’t wait to wear it during the Winter over allllll the cremes! I left this upside down for about 10 minutes and picking up the snowflakes was a breeze. I did one coat over KBShimmer “Life Rose On”.
“Dressed To Gild” has mostly holographic gold glitter with a sprinkling of green and purple glitter in a clear base that dries with a textured finish. This is absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait to wear this during the Holidays. It will look so pretty paired with a red polish too! Love it. Nice formula, easy to spread on the nail considering how much glitter is in here. I did 2 coats.
“Turnip The Beet” has magenta glitter and silver holographic shimmer in a magenta jelly base that dries with a matte textured finish. Another amazing beauty. This one is pretty opaque and it barely requires a second coat. Lovely formula too. I did 2 coats here.
“White Here, White Now” has white glitter in a white crelly base that dries matte and textured. My camera hated this polish. It would not show off the glitter bits so if you want a better photo of the finish, head over to The Nail Polish Challenge’s blog. It’s so interesting and unique. People are either going to love this or hate this. I’m pleasantly surprised to say I love it! It’ll be perfect for a Santa suit mani! I did 2 coats.
“Spot Sign” is an instant leopard manicure in a bottle! It has leopard spot shaped glitter with black dots of different sizes and a holographic shimmer sprinkle. The is amazing! Leave it to KBShimmer to be so innovative! Love it! I would suggest leaving it upside down for 10 minutes or so to help make the spots easy to pickup. I did one dabbed coat over Zoya “Kennedy”.
“Pine-ing For Yule” is KBShimmer’s Toys For Tots charity polish for 2014. $4 from each bottle sold will benefit the Toys For Tots organization! It’s full of green triangles and red stars with silver holographic microglitter and shimmers in a clear base. This is super Christmasy and beautiful. I would suggest leaving this upside down for 5 - 10 minutes to help make glitter pickup a breeze. I did one dabbed coat over OPI “Christmas Gone Paid”.
“Deja Brew” is a milk chocolate brown linear holo. Beautiful polish. The linear holographic effect is strong in here. Stronger than I was able to capture. The first photo is color accurate. The second photo was taken to show off the holographic effect. Absolute perfection in 2 coats.
Rereleases
“Sugar Plum Faerie” has green, purple and magenta glitter in lots of sizes in a purple jelly base. I’m glad this is returning for the people who couldn’t get it the first time around. It’s so pretty and not a typical Holiday polish while still fitting the theme. This is 3 thin coats.
“Snow Way!” is a pale milky blue crelly with white glitter and a holographic shimmer. This is a fan favorite and for good reason. It’s so beautiful and perfect for Winter. I’m glad it was decided to bring this one back. Great formula. This is 2 coats.
“Merry Pinkmas” has a candy pink crelly base with neon pink, neon lime, kelly green, red and silver glitter. I love how unique this color is. I loved it when it came out originally and I love it now all the more! This is 2 coats.
“All Decked Out” is a Christmas tree in a bottle! A rainbow of glitter including gold stars in an evergreen jelly base. Another fabulous one to rerelease for the Holidays. Wonderful. Perfect in 2 thick coats or 3 thin ones. I did 2 thick coats here.
“Kringle All The Way” has red, green and silver round glitters in tons of sizes mixed with a subtle shimmer in a clear base. This is like an ultimate roundy glitter polish! It looks like Christmas ornaments! One dabbed coat over Essie “The More The Merrier”.
Cuticle Oils
I love KBShimmer’s cuticle oils in general so I love when she releases new scents. I use the KBShimmer cuticle oils daily and they are so lovely and hydrating and they keep my cuticles looking so nice.
Peppermint Cuticle Oil has a pleasant peppermint smell. I’m not the biggest fan of peppermint because it can be so overwhelming but this is not. It’s definitely peppermint but it doesn’t overpower you. Very nice.
Raspberry Vanilla Cuticle Oil has a delicious fruity and sweet scent. I’m also not the biggest fan of overly sweet smelling things but this one has a perfect amount of sweetness. This is going to sound weird but it smells like Ikea’s candle section. Haha! Clean, fruity and sweet but not too much.
Chai Tea Cuticle Oil is a perfectly Fall and Winter scented oil. It smells like a mixture of cinnamon pinecones and iced gingerbread cookies. This seriously makes me salivate and makes me want gingerbread cookies immediately. You might be tempted to eat your fingers off. LOL! This will be my jam this Fall and Winter!
Unscented Cuticle Oil is unscented (Queen of the obvious here.) Great for people who are sensitive to scents. Sometimes I don’t feel like having a scented cuticle oil or cream so this will be perfect when I’m in that mood.
And lastly……..
“Holly Back Girl” is a delicate white crelly with bits of smaller red and green glitters. No one does a white crelly quite like KBShimmer. This is adorable. And guess what! You can get a FREE bottle with any $70 purchase 11/1 - 12/31! Just enter HGBFREE at checkout! If you don’t spend $70, you can still purchase this polish as well.
