Nicole by OPI: 2014 Core Shades Swatches & Review
Hello my dears! Today I have a big bunch o’ polishes from Nicole by OPI! These were marketed as new core polishes for 2014 but I heard somewhere that some of them are actually re-releases with different names. I’m not sure what the old polish names are though. Regardless, they are all new to me! :)
“Something About Spring” is a creamy, cool toned bright pink. 3 coats but 2 coats would be fine with a ridge-filling base coat.
“Sweet Surrender” is a semi-sheer milky shade with slight pink undertones. A nice simple shade. There is some slight streaking and you will definitely need to wait between coats to prevent dragging. 3 coats.
“I Shop Mint-age” is a beautiful and squishy mint green crelly. This reminds me of a more opaque version of Rescue Beauty Lounge “Fire Queen” which is to die for. Love the name of this polish, as well as the polish itself! 3 coats.
“At Least I Pink So” is not the most friendly pale pink I’ve ever used. It’s a bit on the runny side and I used 3 thin coats and had to baby it quite a bit. There were still some bald spots in real life even after a ridge-filling base coat and 3 coats.
“That’s Putting It Mild” is a perfect putty colored polish with a nice creamy formula. I did 2 coats over a ridge-filling base coat.
“Yoga-Then-Yogurt” is a pretty decent white creme. I was able to get it evenly laid out in 2 coats but it did require and light and steady hand. It did dry shiny and not chalky which is always a plus.
“I’ll Have The Salmon” is the exact color of cooked salmon and it’s so pretty especially with the added subtle golden microshimmer. It has a jelly-like formula which makes it so squishy! I like this one a lot more than I expected to. It requires a bit of a light hand when applying. I used 3 coats over a ridge-filling base coat.
“Taupe of My Class” is obviously supposed to be a taupe shade. In the bottle it looked gray to my eye and on the nail it was a dark, dusty army green on me! Suffice to say, this polish is confusing! LOL! Regardless, I really like the shade it turned out to be. Just like army fatigues. I did 2 coats. (My camera freaked out trying to photograph this and gave my skin a weird color but it is showing color accurate!)
“Oh That’s Just Grape!” is a perfectly grape creme with a very subtle silver shimmer that you can only really see is in strong sunlight. Such a pretty color. 2 coats.
“Fabulous Is My Middle Name” has silver microglitter with blue, silver, red and magenta mini bars in a clear base. Confetti in a bottle! One coat over “Oh That’s Just Grape!”
“Teal Me Something New” is a bright creme that appears more aqua than teal to me. Awesome formula and gorgeous color! 2 coats.
“Be Awesome” has multicolored holographic diamond shaped glitter in a clear base. This polish isn’t bad at all but I’m just not a huge fan of diamond glitter, especially when that’s the only shape. It did require a bit of work to get the glitter bits out and dabbing is a must. I did one dabbed coat over “Teal Me Something New”.
“Emerald Empowered” is a blue to emerald green duochrome. It reminds me a bit of Nicole by OPI “Mermaid For Each Other” which I swapped away a while ago, so I don’t have it for comparison. :( This is 2 coats.
“Always A Flirt!” is a muted red polish with really strong hot pink shimmer. The shimmer is so obvious the polish end ups looking like a dark pink shimmering polish. I thought this looked like it might be really similar to OPI “The Color Of Minnie” but TCOM is much more obviously red than AAF. Definitely not dupes. I did 2 coats of “Always A Flirt!”
“This Blue Is So You!” is a dark almost navy blue with green undertones. Nice formula, pretty color. Love it! 2 coats.
