Emmy Awards 2013 Fashion Inspired Nails!

Posted on Sep 23, 2013

Hi guys! Last night was the 65th Annual Emmy Awards and, I, being a crazy television fanatic, had to watch the coverage of the the show! One of my favorite parts about award shows is seeing all the awesome fashion! I felt so inspired by some of the beautiful gowns I saw on the red carpet that I decided I needed to try some of the fashions out… on my nails, of course! Here are just a few of my favorites…

Kristen Connolly’s gown designed by Nicholas Oakwell captured my heart. Not because of the gown itself (it seems ill-fitting) but the color combination… nude + metallic = my new favorite thing! Not to mention, every nail girls’ favorite pattern… chevron! I knew I had to put it on my nails the minute I saw her on the red carpet! I used OPI “Don’t Pretzel My Buttons” as the base and Orly “Luxe” for the free-handed chevron pattern.

Michelle Dockery’s Prada ensemble was one of my faves for a few reasons… 1) The color combination is striking! Who would have thought to pair these two colors?! 2) There is a big bow on the back of the halter that adds something really fun to the look. 3) The outfit looked matte (how cool is that???) She looked so polished and classy. I love the simplicity and yet it makes a big statement. For this nail design I used China Glaze “Igniting Love” and ManGlaze “Fatty’s Got More Blood” and then topped both off with Deborah Lippmann’s matte topcoat, “Flat Top.”

What girl wouldn’t love Anna Gunn’s Romona Keveza gown? On top of the gown being gorgeous, Anna Gunn stands at 5′ 10″ and looks like a statuesque model! I was just in love with everything about this look. The top of the gown is made of lace with some very intricate and lovely beading. I seriously can’t get over this dress. For this look I used NCLA “Not So Sweet” and then taped off my nails diagonally, dripped some black nail polish into a cup, spritzed the polish with rubbing alcohol which created a swirly, lace-like effect in the water and then dipped each nail in separately, removing the tape after each nail was dipped. I love the way these turned out!

For the next look, I was inspired by Sarah Hyland’s Carolina Herrera gown. I was actually obsessed with her entire look, from her bold brows and oxblood lip to her jewel toned gown with the black lace overlay to her simple and chic hairstyle. Love love love! For this nail look I used Rescue Beauty Lounge “Recycle” and a black polish, using the same technique as described above.

Lastly, I was so in love with the embroidery on Kiernan Shipka’s Delpozo gown! The color combo is so cute and the dress is so age appropriate for her. Her makeup was so cute and fresh too and her eyebrows… oh her eyebrows. I have a thing for eyebrows and hers are GOOD. She is such a cutie pie and pulls this dress off perfectly. For this look, I used a white base and mixed up some acrylic paints and painted the flowers on each nail with nail art brushes in a messy, watercolor-like fashion.

Some other looks I loved were: Kerry Washington in Marchesa, Laura Dern in Naeem Khan, Elisabeth Moss in Andrew Gn, Allison Janney in Lorena Sarbu, Mindy Kaling in Edition by Georges Chakra, Taylor Schilling in Thakoon, Aubrey Plaza in Marios Schwab, Kaley Cuoco in Vera Wang, Jewel in Tony Ward, Morgan Saylor in Honor, Rose Byrne in Calvin Klein Collection, Leslie Mann in J. Mendel & Aaron Paul in Burberry.

Whew! So many good ones! Did you watch the Emmy’s last night? What were your favorite looks?
