Emmy Awards 2014 Fashion Inspired Nails!

Posted on Aug 26, 2014

HI! Today I have some nail art for you guys! Yay! All of these were inspired by some of the fashion from the yesterday’s 66th Annual Emmy Awards! If you know me, I’m a bit of a TV fanatic so I love watching the Emmy’s and seeing all the stars.

Don’t forget to check out last year’s post if you’d like to see a little blast from the past but let’s get to the good stuff from this year!

Last year I was inspired by Michelle Dockery‘s bold color combination. It was so out of the ordinary to pair two colors on the opposite end of the red spectrum. She pulled off another bold combo this year with her colorblock gown by Rosie Assoulin. I would never think to pair a pale pink with bold blue and lush grass green but this dress is so swoon-worthy. The way the fabric lays so effortlessly and the elegant neckline. I was so taken with this beautiful dress. Of course I had to do the manicured version. Here I used OPI “I Love Applause” as the base and hand painted Zoya “Josie” and Milani “Blue Zoom” for the stripes to mimic the top portion of the dress.

First of all, I have tiny obsession with Taissa Farmiga. There is just something about her. She’s a little bit quirky and she seems so sweet and innocent. She is so naturally beautiful and has dainty little features. And her hair. HER HAIR. In the next life, if I could be born with her hair, that would be great. Not to mention she has been part of one of my favorite shows, American Horror Story. I loved her so much as Violet from season one of the show and she was great as the witchy Zoe is season three.

Naturally, I was drawn to her Emmy’s dress that looks like art in and of itself so I created the matching nail art! For this look I used Lime Crime “Milky Ways” as the base then I created a waterfall style on top of that using Milani “Pink Beige” and Butter London “Toff”. I then used OPI “Nein! Nein! Nein! Ok Fine!”, and brushed it on the base of the nail, dragging it toward the tip. Lastly, I added a few more “waterfalls” using NNNOF to blend it into the other “waterfall” colors.

Last year I did a nail art design to pay homage to Sarah Hyland’s 2013 dress. This year, I WAS IN LOVE with her dress by Christian Siriano. She was one of the best dressed of the night in my opinion. I didn’t want to create nail art using this year’s dress as inspiration since I did a similar design for Michelle Dockery’s dress last year. Instead, I decided to recreate the actual mani she wore to the Emmy’s this year. It’s so simple and yet so elegant and striking all at once. I used Deborah Lippmann “Human Nature” as the base and added a thin piece of gold striping tape horizontally across each nail. Classic.

The minute I saw Kerry Washington step onto the red carpet, I knew that I would need to recreate her gown on my nails. A bright and bold pick compared to a lot of the choices from the female celebs. Plus, the thigh-high slit with the sequined hot pants (or maybe it’s a skirt) peeking out was just the cherry on top. Not to mention Kerry is a doll and I adore her and her show Scandal! To recreate this look, I started out with Butter London “Minger” as the base. I then painted thin lines in a cross pattern on each nail and topped it with a stripe at the tip of my nail using OPI “Umpires Come Out At Night”. Then I lightly dabbed some loose silver craft glitter along the lines while they were still wet. I couldn’t tell for sure if Kerry’s dress was orange and black or orange and navy (different pictures made it look one way or another) so I just decided to go with the navy. Either way, love it!

I love Sofia Vergara! She is so rambunctious and fun and of course I think her character Gloria on Modern Family is amazing! I love how Sofia always accentuates her amazing curves with tight fitting dresses while still looking classy and not too over-the-top. The white with silver sparkle on this gown was just perfection. I didn’t really like the way my replication of this one turned out but meh… so is life. I used Deborah Lippmann “Amazing Grace” for the base and use OPI “My Signature Is D.C.” for the lines.

Now, here is another gown with the craziest color combo that I just fell in love with. Worn by the gorgeous Teyonah Parris, it is so unexpected but perfect somehow. Plus, I love how bright and fun it is compared to most of the gowns of the night. Teyonah’s hair was so lovely with the dress too and she is simply glowing. I just adored everything about this look and knew I’d need to copy-cat it! I used Essie “The More The Merrier” on the pointer and pinkie then used OPI “Live.Love.Carnaval” as the base on the middle and ring fingers. I added random stripes to mimic the dress using OPI “You’re So Vain-illa”, Butter London “Molly-Coddled” and Deborah Lippmann “Just Walk Away Renee”.

Last but not least, Cat Deeley’s Burberry gown is what polish girls’ dreams are made of. It went without saying that I would have to do a pretty ombré to duplicate the look of the gown. I actually didn’t like the color on her, I felt it made her look sunburnt or something, but I liked the colors in general and the gown itself was stunning. I used Lime Crime “Milky Ways”, OPI “My Very First Knockwurst” and Zoya “Madeline” on a sponge to create lovely ombre.

I really enjoyed a lot of the fashion on the red carpet for the 2014 Emmy’s. My other favorites were

PHEW! That’s a lot! I also loved Yael Stone & Kate Mulgrew‘s gowns but I’m not sure who designed them. They looked beautiful though!

Did you watch the Emmy’s? Who were your favorites of the night? Who’s gowns would you have used for inspiration? Let me know in the comments!

WOW, such an incredible post! I am in love with the Teyonah Parris inspired manicure - it’s truly perfect. And I wasn’t actually a big fan of Cat Deeley’s dress (something about the fabric made it look a little cheap to me), but as a gradient manicure? So beautiful! Oh, and the Kerry Washington nails? I - can’t - even - handle - it. Just amazing. Sarah Hyland, Teyonah Parris and Michelle Dockery were my favourites from this year’s red carpet (Christian Siriano’s clearly doing something right) - I’m so glad you included aspects from each of their outfits in this post! Man, you’re really hitting it out of the park here, Valesha.
