KBShimmer: Water Slide Decal & Nail Care Product Review

Hi guys! Happy Friday! Today I have a little review of some of KBShimmer’s Water Slide Decals and new nail care products to share with you!

First up! Water Slide Decals! I’ll start off by saying that I love Water Slide Decals. I find them to be so much easier to use than nail wraps or stickers or anything else. KBShimmer carries some WSD with great designs and it’s a quick way to get some fabulous looking “nail art” in a flash.

Next are the new nail care products I picked, Oh Matte! Top Coat, Love You Strong Time Nail Strengthener and Fillin’ Groovy Ridge Filling Base Coat.

I’m a huge advocate for ridge filling base coats. My nails are a bit ridge-y and bumpy which can make doing even coats of polish on the nail difficult for me. My tried-and-true favorite ridge filling base coat is OPI’s but KBShimmer’s rivals that now. KBShimmer’s is not as milky so it dries pretty much clear but still has the same ridge filling properties that I need. It’s also cheaper which is a plus since I go through it like a madman. The next test for me will be wear time. I don’t get that much wear time from regular nail polish in general but it does tend to be a bit better with OPI’s Ridge Filling Base Coat. I need to compare the two and when I do, I will update!

Love You Strong Time is KBShimmer’s answer for nail strengthening. You’d think I’d be all for nails strengtheners because I don’t have the strongest nails ever (although they are much stronger since I went squoval shaped instead of square!) but I haven’t had much luck with them. They either make my nails yellow, peely, too rigid or they weaken them, which is strange. Also, it seems that most nail strengtheners have formaldehyde in them which I really don’t like to use on my nails unless I have to. Love You Strong Time doesn’t have formaldehyde, Toluene or DBP which was really intriguing to me! I’m currently testing it out but I like to give nail strengtheners a good 2+ months of testing before I decide how I feel about them. That being said, Love You Strong Time is at least worth a try! I’m liking it so far compared to others!

Lastly, KBShimmer’s Oh Matte! Matte Top Coat!

This top coat is quite possibly the most matte top coat I’ve personally come across. I love it and can’t wait to put it over everything! I tried it out by topping the Birds & Hearts mani with Oh Matte! I adore how “Chilly Pepper” looks all mattified! Amazing!

I so badly want to try the ridgefiller!

  • LaraLeaf

I love, love that mani with the yellow and blurple and drips decals.

I have a question about the yellow polish. Is it really that bright in person? On the website it looks more like a taxi cab yellow, with a bit of orange tinge. I’m looking for a true yellow. Thanks.

    • To my eye (and monitor) my photo is true to color. It’s a bright yellow with a slight golden undertone. It reminds me of the color of egg yolks. i don’t think it’s a taxi cab yellow color.

Do you use the ridge filler instead of a base coat or under a base coat? I have terrible ridges especially on my thumb nails. Do you ever mix brands? I’m using the Zoya treatment system but I think I need a little something more for the ridges.

    • The Ridge Filler is a base coat. Do I mix brands as far as brands of base coats, colors and top coats? Yes. So I’ve been using OPI’s Ridge Filler Base Coat then whatever color I choose, whether it’s an OPI shade, KBShimmer… whatever. Then I usually use KBShimmer’s Clearly On Top top coat or Glisten & Glow’s HK Girl. Hope that helps.

I would like to see a review of ridge fillers, as I have the same problem as you.
